代数几何中的许多经典结果源于研究某些射影簇中出现的极端行为，这些射影簇不位于任何固定次数的超曲面上。我们研究附着于此类簇族的两个数值不变量：它们的最小次数，以及穿过它们的最小次数超曲面的最大线性无关个数。我们给出了关于曲线与曲面的结果，并提出了若干问题。
