摘要

长期以来已知 $s$ -cobordism 定理对 $5$ 维 $s$ -cobordism 不成立。本文研究需要多少次"稳定化"才能将 $5$ 维 $s$ -cobordism 转化为乘积 cobordism。该问题类似于问需要多少次稳定化才能将一对奇异的四维流形变为微分同胚的。本文的主要工具是 Gabai 的 $4$ D light bulb 定理及其应用，我们还使用了由 Freedman-Quinn 不变量改进的 $4$ D light bulb 定理。
