使用Felten等人[J. Appl. Phys. 96, 563 (2004)]的格林函数理论，对压电势显微镜在横向各向异性材料中的对比进行分析，这对应于四方形铁电材料中c+ - c- 域的情况。获得了一种简化的PFM信号表达式，其形式为与相关压电常数成线性组合。该分析推广到具有弱弹性和介电各向异性的任意对称性的压电材料。该结果为解释具有未知或信息不完整的局部弹性和介电性质的系统（包括纳米晶材料、铁电聚合物和生物聚合物）的PFM信号提供了框架。
