许多人抛过硬币,但很少有人停下来思考这一过程在统计与物理上的复杂性。我们收集了 350,757350{,}757 次硬币抛掷数据,以检验由 Diaconis、Holmes 和 Montgomery(DHM;2007)提出的人类抛硬币物理模型所给出的反直觉预测。该模型断言,当人们抛掷普通硬币时,它倾向于落在起始的同一面——DHM 估计同侧结果的概率约为 51%。我们的数据强烈支持这一精确预测:硬币更频繁地落在同侧,Pr(same side)=0.508\text{Pr}(\text{same side}) = 0.508,95% 可信区间(CI)[0.5060.5060.5090.509],BFsame-side bias=2359\text{BF}_{\text{same-side bias}} = 2359。此外,数据揭示了不同人之间在同侧偏倚程度上存在显著差异。我们的数据也证实了一般性预测:当人们抛掷普通硬币——初始朝上的一面随机确定——它落地为正面或反面的可能性相等:Pr(heads)=0.500\text{Pr}(\text{heads}) = 0.500,95% CI [0.4980.4980.5020.502],BFheads-tails bias=0.182\text{BF}_{\text{heads-tails bias}} = 0.182。而且,这种正反面无偏性在不同硬币间似乎没有差异。进一步分析显示,随着抛掷硬币数量增加,个体内部的同侧偏倚减弱,这一效应与练习使人抛硬币时摆动更小的一致性相符。因此,我们的数据提供了有力证据:当某些(而非全部)人抛掷公平硬币时,它倾向于落在起始的同一面。
