一个著名的猜想断言，如果曲面的亏格很大，则其映射类群（可能带有穿孔/边界）不会虚拟满射到上。我们证明，如果该猜想对某个亏格成立，那么它对所有更大的亏格也成立。我们还证明，如果该猜想存在反例，那么必然存在一个形式特别简单的反例。我们通过将该猜想与我们称之为高阶Prym表示的一族映射类群的线性表示联系起来，证明了这些结果。这些表示推广了经典的辛表示。
