摘要
当在某个可能的质量范围内寻找新共振态时，观测到局部事件过剩的显著性必须考虑在该范围内任意位置观测到这种过剩的概率。这就是所谓的“look elsewhere effect”。该效应可以用试验因子来量化，即观测到过剩出现在某个固定质量点的概率与观测到它出现在范围内任意位置的概率之比。我们基于Davies的早期结果，提出了一种简单快速的试验因子估计方法。我们证明，渐近地，试验因子随（固定质量的）显著性线性增长。
