我们证明了以下三个紧密相关的结果。第一个结果是每个有限单群都有一个具有 2 个生成元和至多 18 个关系的 profinite 表示。第二个结果是，如果 是一个有限单群， 是一个域， 是一个 -模，那么 以 为系数的第二上同调群的维数至多是 维数的 17.5 倍。第三个结果是，只要 是忠实不可约 -模，就可以将 17.5 替换为 18.5。最后两个结果回答了 Holt 的猜想。
