P. J. Federico 用“低阶”一词指代剖分中至多包含28个正方形的完美正方形剖分。2010年，低阶复合完美正方形剖分（CPSSs）被完全枚举。在不考虑正方形及其正方形子矩形对称性的情况下，24至28阶共有208个低阶CPSSs。2012年，29阶CPSSs被完全枚举，使得截至29阶的CPSSs总数达到620个。
