证明了 Yates 的加权均方方法所得的平方和与其他方法所表述的分子平方和是等价的。这些关系首先针对一般线性模型中关于固定效应的假设建立，在此过程中展示了 Yates 方法如何得以推广。随后在两个因素的主效应和交互效应的不等子组数模型中进行了说明。
