对称性在量子场论中起着核心作用。近期的发展包括作用于缺陷及其他子系统的对称性，以及范畴性而非群状的对称性。这些广义对称性概念允许新的反常类型约束动力学。我们回顾量子场论中这些对称性新颖方面的若干变革性实例，并给出近期应用的概览。
