A Special Subgroup of the Surface Braid Group

摘要

Herein we prove that if MM is a compact oriented Riemann surface of genus gg, and M[n]M^{[n]} is the classifying space of nn distinct, unordered points on MM, then the kernel of the map π1(M[n])H1(M)\pi_1(M^{[n]})\to H_1(M) is generated by transpositions for sufficiently large nn. Specifically, we treat MM as a polyhedron, and the edge set of MM generates this group.
