摘要
我们描述并解释了数学家中普遍存在的一种愿望，即在其主要主题中既追求统一性又追求独立性。在随后的对话中，我们将数学的发展视为一个目标驱动的过程，并将其与那种往往显得具有相当任意性的过程进行对比，以此表达我们自发且经过深思熟虑的判断与保留意见。
