XENON100 暗物质实验的中子本底

摘要

安装于格兰萨索国家实验室 (LNGS) 地下的 XENON100 实验旨在通过弱相互作用大质量粒子 (WIMPs) 与氙核的弹性散射直接探测暗物质。本文介绍了对该实验核反冲本底的研究,考虑了由探测器和屏蔽材料中的天然放射性引起的 (α\alpha,n) 反应和自发裂变产生的中子本底,以及缪子诱导的中子。基于蒙特卡洛模拟并利用所有探测器组件测得的放射性污染数据,我们预测了 XENON100 实验在 2011 年和 2012 年发布的 WIMP 搜寻结果对应的核反冲本底,分别为 0.110.04+0.08^{+0.08}_{-0.04} 个事件和 0.170.07+0.12^{+0.12}_{-0.07} 个事件,并得出结论认为它们并未限制实验的灵敏度。
