摘要
我们报告了对钛金属样品进行的放射性纯度筛查。本工作中描述的筛查过程促成了大型地下氙(LUX)暗物质实验中低温恒温器建造材料的选择。我们的测量结果表明,钛是寻找稀有事件的低背景实验中非常理想的材料。长寿命总放射性最低的样品经测量含有 <0.25 mBq/kg 的 U-238,<0.2 mBq/kg 的 Th-232,以及 <1.2 mBq/kg 的 K-40。对多个样品的测量还表明存在短寿命(半衰期 84 天)的 Sc-46,这可能是由 子引发的 (n,p) 反应通过宇宙射线生成的。
