计算研究界需要更加努力以应对我们创新带来的负面影响。在隐私侵蚀、对民主的威胁以及自动化对就业的影响（ among many other issues）之间，我们不再能简单地假定我们的研究将对世界产生净正面影响。尽管起初看似无从着手，但我们相信可通过一个直接步骤取得实质性进展：对同行评审流程做微小改动。如下文所述，我们假定所推荐的改动将迫使计算研究者更深入地考量其工作的负面影响。我们也期望这一改动将激励缓解计算负面影响的研究与政策。
