Euclid:利用观测颜色选取宁静与恒星形成星系

Euclid任务将观测远超十亿个星系直至 z\sim6 及更远。这将为研究星系形成与演化中的若干关键问题提供无与伦比的机会。许多此类研究的第一步将是选取宁静与恒星形成星系样本,正如文献中常通过使用如“UVJ”图等知名颜色技术所做的那样。然而,鉴于Euclid望远镜可用的滤光片数量有限,恢复此类静止系颜色将具有挑战性。因此我们研究利用Euclid观测颜色,单独及与地面u波段观测结合,来选取宁静与恒星形成星系。在本文测试的组合中,最高效的颜色组合由 (u-VIS) 与 (VIS-J) 颜色构成。我们发现该组合使用户能在 0.75<z<1 红移范围内选取完备度高于约70%且污染低于15%的宁静星系样本。对于高红移星系或无u波段补充观测的星系,(VIS-Y) 与 (J-H) 颜色代表一种有效替代,在 1<z<2 范围内寻找宁静星系时完备度水平 >65% 且污染低于20%。相比之下,当利用模拟Euclid观测恢复静止系颜色时,用传统UVJ技术选取的宁静星系样本在 z<3 处完备度仅约20%。这表明当仅有Euclid波段及u波段成像可用时,我们的新方法是首选。
