Carlitz 在 1950 年左右引入了伯努利数的 q-类似物。我们得到了这些 q-伯努利数（及其某些平移版本）作为某些正交多项式矩的表示。这也给出了 q-伯努利数 Hankel 行列式的因式分解，以及其生成级数的连分式。其中一些结果是伯努利数已知结果的 q-类似物，但也有一些是 q-伯努利设定下特有的。
