IC348因其邻近、致密且丰富，是研究低质量恒星形成的绝佳实验室。钱德拉X射线天文台在其运行早期对该星团进行了一次观测。随后数年积累的大量光学和红外波段新数据改变了星表，因此需要对X射线数据进行重新分析。
