我们确定，在简化磁海体力学（RMHD）模拟中，均方电流密度脉冲的尺寸遵循幂律概率密度函数（PDF）。脉冲持续时间和脉冲之间等待时间的PDF明显非非随机，也可能是幂律。这足以将其行为与原初的Bak等人沙堆模型区分开来，后者具有非随机等待时间PDF。然而，这还不足以在湍流、某些其他类似SOC模型以及其他红噪声源之间进行区分。
