我们报告了WASP-8b的发现，这是一颗质量为2.25±0.08 M_Jup的凌星行星，轨道周期为8.15天，轨道强烈倾斜且偏心，其运动方向与其晚G型主序星的自转方向相反（逆行）。有证据表明，这颗恒星是一个包含另外两个伴星的多星系统。该系统的动力学复杂性表明，它可能经历了诸如Kozai机制之类的长期相互作用，或者其形成过程不同于“经典”的盘迁移理论。
