星体多plicity 与 初始质量函数：大多数星体为单星

摘要
在本短信中，我比较了最近指出晚型星体低双星分数的发现与关于初始质量函数和现今质量函数形式的已知情况，后者适用于质量下降到氢燃烧极限。这种比较表明，银河系中大多数星体系统可能是单星而非双星，这与人们经常断言的情形相反。事实上，在当前时代，银河盘中两-thirds 的所有主序星体系统都是由单星组成的。简要提及了这一认识对于理解星体和行星形成过程的一些含义。
