Mimulus guttatus 和 M. nasutus 是一对在生态学、交配系统和部分生殖隔离方面存在分化的进化与生态学模式姊妹物种。尽管对该系统进行了广泛研究，但这对姊妹物种的分化与差异历史仍不清楚。我们展示并分析了一个新的群体基因组数据集，该数据集表明 M. nasutus 在过去 20 万至 50 万年间从加利福尼亚中部的一个 M. guttatus 种群中“芽生”出来。在此期间，M. nasutus 基因组积累了众多向主要自交转变的基因组特征。尽管存在明显的生物学分化，我们记录了持续的双向基因渗入。我们观察到重组率与 M. nasutus 和同域 M. guttatus 样本之间的分化呈负相关，这表明选择作用在 M. guttatus 中对抗 M. nasutus 的祖先成分。
