本文描述了一种用于解析（英语）词性标记序列的解析器，采用基于概率语法训练的 inside-outside 算法。初始（元）语法由语言学家定义，进一步的规则通过自动方式生成且符合元语法约束。训练期间，排除概率极低的规则，从而得到一个覆盖面广、能够对备选分析进行排序的解析器。一系列基于语料库的实验描述了该解析器的性能。
