超级神冈的超新星前预警系统

摘要

2020 年,超级神冈(SK)实验进入新阶段(SK-Gd),在探测器水中加入硫酸八水合钆(Gd),提升了对热中子的探测效率,从而改善了对来自逆β衰变(IBD)相互作用的低能电子反中微子的灵敏度。SK-Gd 有潜力通过探测来自热过程和核过程的电子反中微子,对初发核心坍缩超新星提供早期预警,这些过程负责大质量恒星在核心引力坍缩前的冷却。在硅燃烧阶段发射的这些超新星前中微子可超过 IBD 反应的能力阈值。我们给出了 SK-Gd 对超新星前恒星的灵敏度,以及基于在 SK 中探测这些中微子开发超新星前警报的技术,并展望了未来具有更高 Gd 浓度的 SK-Gd 阶段。对于当前 SK-Gd 阶段,可在核心坍缩前长达九小时发出针对参宿四的高置信度警报。
