WASP-39b 大气中光化学产生的 SO₂

摘要

光化学是行星大气的基本过程,调节着大气成分与稳定性。然而,迄今为止尚未在系外行星大气中探测到明确的化学产物。JWST 凌星系外行星早期释放科学计划的最新观测发现,WASP-39b 大气中在 4.05 μm 处有一个由 SO₂ 引起的光谱吸收特征。WASP-39b 是一颗半径为 1.27 倍木星、土星质量(0.28 M_J)的气态巨行星系外行星,绕类太阳恒星运行,平衡温度约 1100 K。在此类大气中生成 SO₂ 最合理的方式是通过光化学过程。在此我们表明,由一套光化学模型计算的 SO₂ 分布稳健地解释了 JWST 透射观测(NIRSpec PRISM 2.7σ 和 G395H 4.5σ)所识别的 4.05 μm 光谱特征。SO₂ 由硫化氢(H₂S)被破坏时释放的硫自由基经连续氧化产生。SO₂ 特征对大气重元素富集(金属丰度)的敏感性表明,它可用作大气性质的示踪物,WASP-39b 推断的金属丰度约为太阳的 10×。我们进一步指出,SO₂ 在紫外和热红外波长处也显示出现有观测无法获得的可观测特征。
