摘要
本文试图讲述广义线性模型的故事，该模型诞生于 2000 年前，以及其背后的假设。我们区分了三个主要阶段（忽略更早的孤立实例）。该模型最初是在天文和大地测量观测的背景下提出的，其中主要变异来源是观测误差。这是该模型在 19 世纪的主要用途。20 世纪 20 年代，R.A. Fisher 以农业和生物学为主要应用领域将其发展到一个新方向。最后，从 20 世纪 30 年代和 40 年代开始，它成为社会科学的重要工具。随着新应用领域的增加，该模型背后的假设变得越来越值得怀疑，由此产生的统计技术也更容易被误用。
