利用地基CMB偏振实验POLARBEAR测量对流层冰云

摘要

大气偏振一直是面向宇宙微波背景(CMB)偏振的地基实验长期关注的问题。对流层上部云中的冰晶散射来自地面的热辐射并产生水平偏振信号。我们报道利用位于智利阿塔卡马沙漠、观测频率为150 GHz的地基CMB实验POLARBEAR对云信号的详细分析。当网络摄像头监测到望远镜与天空出现云时,我们观测到水平偏振的低频涨落暂态增强(“偏振爆发”,下文如此称谓)达\lesssim0.1 K。利用三年数据,无偏振爆发与云相关性的假设以>24σ\sigma的统计显著性被拒绝。我们考虑了许多其他可能性,包括仪器与环境效应,未发现比云更能解释数据的其他原因。我们还讨论了云偏振对未来地基CMB偏振实验的影响。
