我们比较了三种常见的分层定量数据可视化方法：树图、冰柱图以及旭日图，还有我们称之为日落图的旭日图半圆变体。在一项试点研究中，我们发现旭日图最不受青睐。在一项有12名参与者参与的受控研究中，我们比较了树图、冰柱图和日落图。树图最不受青睐，且在基础导航任务上表现较慢，在层级理解任务中的速度和准确率也较低。冰柱图与日落图表现相近，用户略微偏好冰柱图。
