国际天文学联合会(IAU)于2006年8月在布拉格举行的大会上通过了迫切需要的行星定义。该定义不得不通过投票方式通过。一群高举反对IAU定义旗帜的科学家指出，IAU未能给出一个可接受的行星定义。本文讨论了行星定义中存在的严重异议的简要描述。本文还尝试通过对IAU定义进行一些修改，给出一个新的行星定义。
