除了对基因和蛋白质的分子层面洞察,生物成像在加深对复杂细胞系统的科学理解以及推进人类健康的预测性、个性化疗法方面也大有可为。为了实现这一潜力,经过质量保证的图像数据必须在全球实验室间共享,以便进行比较、汇集和再分析——从而释放出远超数据收集原始目的的价值。在生命科学领域实现图像数据共享,需要满足两大类要求。姊妹篇《实现生命科学领域的全球图像数据共享》概述了开发用于共享生物图像数据的网络基础设施的必要性。在本手稿中,我们详细阐述了一系列广泛的要求,涉及收集、管理、呈现和传播那些对于评估质量、理解内容、解释科学意义以及在实验细节背景下重用生物图像数据至关重要的上下文信息。我们首先概述了迄今为止通过国际社区活动汲取的主要经验教训,这些活动最近在制定成像质量控制(QC)和元数据的社区标准实践方面取得了相当大的进展。然后,我们提供了一套明确的建议来推进这项工作。其驱动目标是解决剩余的挑战,并使一系列生物医学研究人员(无论其专业知识、资源获取途径和地理位置如何)都能民主化地获取日常实践和工具。
