GRAVITY faint:利用快速计量衰减系统降低GRAVITY$^+$中的噪声源

随着从GRAVITY升级到GRAVITY,该仪器将演变为可观测暗弱目标(如高红移AGN)的全天干涉仪。观测最暗弱目标需要尽可能降低GRAVITY中的噪声源。主导噪声源(尤其在光谱蓝端)是计量激光光在探测器上的背向散射。为降低该噪声,我们引入两种新的计量模式。通过较小的硬件改动与软件适配相结合,我们能在不丢失相位参考的情况下于观测期间调暗计量激光。对于单束目标,我们甚至可关闭计量激光以在探测器上获得最大SNR。这些改动使整个光谱平均SNR提升超过2倍,在当前由激光噪声主导的光谱部分提升可达8倍。
