我们提出并演示了一种在室温下直接观测垂直腔面发射激光器 (VCSEL) 中高阶回音壁模式的方法。不同于引入任何缺陷模式，我们表明可以通过表面微结构破坏垂直反射镜来抑制低阶腔模。实验中通过收集近场辐射图样，观测到了由原生氧化层横向限制的最高达第 23 阶方位角的回音壁模式。实验光谱以及数值模拟也识别出了各种垂直发射横模。
