摘要
粒子物理与天体物理/宇宙学实验的预计发现与排除能力常使用中位期望 值或其对应显著性来量化。我们认为该判据会导致错误结果，例如当实验获取更多数据或降低本底时，反而可能直观地给出灵敏度降低的预计。我们讨论了中位期望显著性在已知本底和本底存在某种不确定性时的若干替代方案的优劣。我们倡导标准使用本文详述的“精确 Asimov 显著性” 。
