位于 Gran Sasso 地下实验室的太阳中微子实验 Borexino,在研究有机液体闪烁体中由缪子诱导的本底方面处于独特地位。在本研究中,通过液体闪烁体外部的缪子否决探测器以及缪子穿过闪烁体体积时观测到的特定光模式,识别并追踪了大量宇宙缪子样本。研究发现,缪子诱导中子的产额为 Yn = (3.10+-0.11)10-4 n/({\mu} (g/cm2))。母体缪子径迹与中子俘获点之间的距离分布的平均值为 {\lambda} = (81.5 +- 2.7)cm。此外,还测量了多种宇宙射线成因放射性同位素(12N, 12B, 8He, 9C, 9Li, 8B, 6He, 8Li, 11Be, 10C 和 11C)的产额。所有结果均与使用 Fluka 和 Geant4 软件包的 Monte Carlo 模拟预测进行了比较。观察到宇宙射线成因产额的数据与模拟总体一致,仅有少数例外,其中最显著的是 11C 产额,两种代码返回的值均低约 50%。发现的预测 {\mu}-n 距离分布和中子多重性分布与数据总体一致。
