CHIME(加拿大氢强度测绘实验)的探路者版本目前正在不列颠哥伦比亚省彭蒂克顿的多米尼加射电天体物理台(DRAO)进行调试。该仪器是一种混合圆柱干涉仪,旨在测量红移范围0.8至2.5的大尺度中性氢功率谱。该功率谱将用于测量在这一暗能量成为宇宙演化重要贡献者的、此前探测较少的红移范围内的重子声学振荡(BAO)尺度。该仪器复兴了射电天文学中的圆柱设计,以宽场巡天为主要目标。现代低噪声放大器和数字处理消除了先前设计特征的模拟波束成形的需要。探路者由两个长37米、宽20米的圆柱组成,南北取向,总收集面积为1500平方米。圆柱固定,无移动部件,形成一台凌星仪器,瞬时视场约为100度乘1-2度。每个CHIME探路者圆柱有一条馈线,装有64个双极化馈源,间隔约30厘米,在大部分频段上对南北天进行奈奎斯特采样。来自每个双极化馈源的信号被独立放大、滤波至400-800 MHz,并以800 MSps、8位直接采样。相关器采用FX设计,其中傅里叶变换信道化在FPGA中执行,FPGA与一组计算相关矩阵的GPU接口。CHIME探路者是CHIME的1/10比例原型,旨在探测BAO特征并约束距离-红移关系。
