我们将提出的变异性->亮度指示器应用于十个由 BeppoSAX Wide-Field 相机观察到的"X 射线暴"(XRFs)，这些 XRFs 已有 BATSE 调查数据。我们的结果表明，变异性->亮度指示器可能适用于 XRFs。假设该指示器有效，我们发现 XRFs 的亮度和红移分布与长期γ射线暴(GRBs)一致，因此大多数 XRFs 可能不是非常高红移的 GRBs。XRFs 与 GRBs 相似的亮度和红移分布表明，XRFs 与长期 GRBs 是由相同机制产生的。
