利用甚长基线干涉测量在探测时定位到边缘星系的快速射电暴

摘要

快速射电暴(FRBs)是毫秒量级、光度极高的河外起源射电瞬变源。这些事件已被用于借助其色散量(DM)示踪宇宙的重子结构,前提是来自宿主星系的贡献可被可靠估计。然而,FRB 近邻环境的贡献可能主导观测到的 DM,从而在没有稳健宿主星系关联的情况下使红移估计变得困难。此外,尽管至少有一个银河系暴被发现与磁星相关,其他已定位 FRB 则反对磁星作为唯一前身星模型。在宿主星系内的精确定位可区分前身星模型,这是该领域的主要目标。迄今为止,这种空间尺度上的定位仅在重复源的后随观测中开展过。本文中,我们展示利用甚长基线干涉测量(VLBI)在两条基线上、仅使用探测时刻收集的数据对 FRB 20210603A 的定位。我们将该暴定位到 SDSS J004105.82+211331.9,一个红移 z0.177z\approx 0.177 的边缘星系,并探测到暴千秒差距尺度邻域内的近期恒星形成。宿主星系的边缘朝向允许在朝向 FRB 的视线与朝向已知银河系脉冲星的视线之间进行独特比较。DM、法拉第旋转量(RM)和散射表明一个与宿主星系盘重合的前身星,加强了 FRB 20210603A 的环境与其宿主星系盘之间的联系。如本文所展示的,对 FRB 在宿主星系内的单脉冲 VLBI 定位,将进一步约束一次性 FRB 的起源与宿主环境。
