EVN台站包含一系列不同直径的元件，甚至包括一个干涉仪（Westerbork望远镜，最多可将14个元件作为捆绑阵列一起使用）。组合起来，不同的台站对将各自产生自己的主波束包络，干涉仪图案随之被调制。人们有时会忘记，在元件不等的情况下，这个组合的主波束包络与每个元件单独的波束是不同的。我们回顾了其原因，总结了一些台站对的结果，并讨论了部分实际后果。近期多项结果所展示的对宽视场应用日益增长的兴趣，凸显了正确确定干涉仪波束包络的必要性。
