我将重点介绍并讨论一些关于银河系恒星种群的研究，这些研究将因宽视场X射线望远镜(WFXT)任务的能力而成为可能，或从中极大受益。这一任务概念已存在超过15年，最近作为美国十年天文调查的一部分，以重新燃起的兴趣被再次提出。
