摘要
我们讨论了使用多变量核平滑方法对英国埃塞克斯郡 11 至 15 世纪的手稿进行年代测定。数据集包含约 3300 份已定年手稿和 5000 份未定年手稿，前者用作训练样本以推算后者的年代。假设两份手稿若在由文档距离度量向量定义的意义上“接近”，则其年代也相近。利用这种方法，统计思想被用于通过平滑距离度量来评估“相似性”，从而参照已定年手稿估算 5000 份未定年手稿的年代。
