VIMOS VLT深场巡天——基于首期数据到z=1.5的星系光度函数随星系类型的演化

基于VVDS首期观测到z=1.5的数据,我们推导了不同光谱型星系的光度函数(VF)。VVDS数据覆盖了宇宙寿命的约70%,首次允许从同一样本中以良好的统计精度在多个静止系波段研究按星系类型划分的光度函数演化。VVDS的星等极限使得对光度函数暗端斜率的确定达到了前所未有的精度。星系利用其颜色和红移被分为四类光谱类型,并在从z=0.05到z=1.5的U、B、V、R和I静止系波段中推导了光度函数。我们发现从早型到晚型光度函数显著变陡。M*参数对晚型星系显著更暗,且这一差异在更红的波段中增大。在每个星系光谱类型内部,我们发现M*随红移增加而增亮,从早型星系的<= 0.5 mag到最晚型星系约1 mag,而各光谱类型光度函数的斜率与红移保持一致。早型星系的光度函数与被动演化一致直到z~1.1,而亮早型星系的数量从z~0.3到z~1.1减少了约40%。我们还发现最晚型星系光度函数归一化存在强烈演化,从z~0.3到z~1.3增加了超过2倍:同一红移范围内亮晚型星系的密度增加了约6.6倍。这些结果表明存在强烈的类型依赖演化,并确定最晚光谱类型是z=1.5范围内UV-光学光度函数演化的主要贡献者。
