AMS实验的环形成像切伦科夫探测器(RICH)

摘要

将安装在国际空间站(ISS)上的阿尔法磁谱仪(AMS)实验将配备一个近距聚焦环形成像切伦科夫(RICH)探测器,用于测量带电宇宙射线的电荷和速度。我们建造了一个由96个光电倍增管单元(包括一块锥形反射镜)组成的RICH原型,并用离子束数据评估了其性能。本文报告了利用158 GeV/c/nuc铟离子初级束(CERN SPS)与铅靶碰撞产生的离子碎片进行的束内测试的初步结果。收集的数据包括对最终前端电子学和不同气凝胶辐射体的测试。观测到了大范围带电原子核的切伦科夫环以及反射光子。数据分析证实了设计目标。获得了直至铁的电荷分离以及单电荷粒子约0.1%量级的速度分辨率。
