核星团存在于大多数星系的中心。它们是宇宙中密度最高的恒星系统，因而具有独特而有趣的恒星动力学。我们综述了核星团在不同质量与类型星系中的普遍程度，然后讨论NSC的典型性质。最后我们讨论NSC的形成，以及一幅关于在较低与较高质量星系中不同形成机制占主导地位的图景正在浮现。
