西班牙天文学在1990年代经历了快速发展。每年发表的论文数量翻了一番，约占世界总量的4%。然而，高影响力论文的数量保持不变，约占世界总量的1%。来自法国、德国和意大利的论文影响力也低于其数量所暗示的，美国、英国、日本、荷兰和澳大利亚的论文中高影响力论文的比例大致与全部论文的比例相同。我们提出了几种可能的解释来说明这种差异。
