近年来，出现了从集中式向地理分布资源的范式转变。单个实体不再能够在内部承载或负担必要的专业知识，因此社会日益依赖广泛的合作。尽管此类合作如今是科学项目的常态，但为分布式科学界提供支持而无直接财务或其他物质收益的技术性结构很少见。欧洲 ALMA 区域中心（ARC）节点网络即是此类国际分布式用户支持网络的一个例子。它是一项有组织的努力，旨在为欧洲 ALMA 用户群体提供统一的专家支持，以实现 ALMA 设施的最佳使用和科学产出。欧洲 ARC 节点的网络模型根据其组织、沟通策略和用户支持进行描述。
