摘要
搜索引擎已成为我们科学、经济和社会活动中关键的媒体，通过使人们能够访问 Web 信息来克服其规模和复杂性。另一方面，搜索引擎根据其页面排序策略对用户流量进行偏见，有人认为它们会形成一种恶性循环，放大既有且已流行网站的主导地位。我们表明，与这些先前的论点和我们自己的直觉相反，搜索引擎的实际使用是平等主义的。我们用理论论证和实证证据表明，搜索引擎检索与用户搜索行为的组合会消弭流行页面的吸引力，使更少流量的网站获得更多访问，即使与用户随机浏览 Web 的情况相比较也是如此。
