来自VIMOS VLT深层测绘的星系形成率演化(z=5至z=0)

我们利用VVDS首个数据释放版本,包含11564个在I_AB=24处选取的光谱,覆盖两个视场:VVDS-0226-04和VVDS-CDFS-0332-27,以及宇宙学参数(Omega_M, Omega_L, h)=(0.3, 0.7, 0.7),来呈现0<z<5范围内共面星系形成率密度的演化。我们研究了0<z<2范围内从波段FUV到光学波段的多波段非尘布尔亮度密度,以及2.7<z<5范围内的1500Å波段亮度函数和密度。它们根据(1+z)^{x}演化,其中x在FUV-1500、NUV-2800、U-3600、B-4400、V-5500、R-6500和I-7900波段分别为2.05、1.94、1.92、1.14、0.73、0.42和0.30。从z=1.2到0.2,类似不规则星系的B波段密度下降约3.5倍,而类似椭圆星系的密度则上升约1.7倍。我们识别出若干星系形成时期;从z=5到z=3.4,FUV波段密度最多增加0.5个dex;从z=3.4到1.2,下降0.08个dex;从z=1.2到0.05,稳步下降0.6个dex。对于最亮的M_AB(1500)<-21星系,FUV波段密度从z=3.9到1.2下降2个dex;对于介于-21<M_AB(1500)<-20的星系,则从z=0.2到0下降2个dex。与尘布尔校正测量结果比较,在0.4<z<2时,FUV似乎被约1.8-2个mag的尘埃遮蔽所影响,而在z<0.5时,则随着尘埃缺乏的早型星系在B波段密度中占据更大比例,遮蔽程度似乎逐渐减弱,最多可达0.9-1个mag。VVDS结果与“downsizing”模型一致,其中最亮源在z~4(约12千万年前)停止高效产生新星,而介于中等亮度的星系则在z~0.2(约25亿年前)仍持续形成星系。(节选)
