默奇森宽场阵列的科学:第一阶段结果与第二阶段机遇

摘要

默奇森宽场阵列(MWA)是一台开放获取的望远镜,致力于研究低频(80–300 MHz)南天天空。自 2013 年中开始运行以来,MWA 在南半球开辟了新的观测窗口,赋能诸多科学领域。原始设计的驱动科学目标是观测再电离时期(EoR)的 21 cm 辐射、探索射电时域、开展银河系与河外巡天,以及监测太阳、日球和电离层现象。总计 60+ 个项目记录了 20000 小时,迄今产出 146 篇论文。2016 年该望远镜进行了重大升级,形成交替的紧凑与扩展构型。自原始阵列建成以来,还开发了包括数字后端和快速响应触发系统在内的其他升级。本文中我们回顾 MWA 先前运行的主要结果,然后讨论由改进能力所赋能的新科学路径。我们按四个原始科学主题对这些科学机遇进行分组,但也包含这些类别之外的方向设想。
