低频射电极化的挑战:来自默奇森宽场阵列的经验

摘要

我们介绍了为进行极化测量而开发的用于校准和校正默奇森宽场阵列(MWA)低频(72-300 MHz)射电观测的技术。MWA 提供的极宽视场、出色的瞬时 (u, v) 覆盖以及对度级结构的灵敏度,使得可以通过成像技术进行仪器校准、仪器伪影去除以及电离层法拉第旋转校正。凭借 MWA 已展示的极化测量能力,我们讨论了低频极化科学的未来方向,以回答与偏振源计数、源退偏振、脉冲星科学、低质量恒星、系外行星、星际与星系际介质性质以及太阳环境相关的突出问题。
