QUBIC VI:低温半波片旋转器设计与性能

暴胀引力波 B 模偏振探测是当今全球大角尺度宇宙微波背景(CMB)实验的最终目标。目前正大力部署许多地基、气球载和卫星实验,采用不同方法将这一微弱偏振成分从入射辐射中分离出来。其中一种广泛使用的技术是斯托克斯偏振测量术,它利用旋转半波片(HWP)和线性偏振器以较低残余交叉偏振来分离和调制偏振分量。本文描述了 QUBIC 斯托克斯偏振计,重点介绍其设计特点和性能。这类装置的一个常见系统误差是产生与旋转同步且与光学元件发射率成正比的大虚假信号。QUBIC 斯托克斯偏振计的一个关键特点是在低温下工作,以最小化这一不需要的成分。在低温下高效移动这一大光学元件构成了降低摩擦功耗的重大工程挑战。在设计阶段高度重视最小化各部件之间的差热收缩。旋转由置于低温恒温器外的步进电机驱动,以避免在低温下产生热负载耗散。本工作给出的测试和结果表明,仅利用步进电机精度和光学绝对编码器,QUBIC 偏振计就能轻松实现低于 0.1{°} 的定位精度。旋转在第二级低温级(约 8 K)上仅引起几 mK 的额外功率负载。
